Bitrue is a Singapore-headquartered cryptocurrency exchange that has built a strong reputation among XRP holders and altcoin traders. Founded in 2018, the platform distinguishes itself with one of the broadest selections of XRP trading pairs available anywhere, alongside a well-developed staking and lending programme. This review assesses whether Bitrue is a good choice for UK investors in 2026.

What Is Bitrue?

Bitrue launched in 2018 with a specific focus on the XRP Ledger ecosystem. Its founding team saw an opportunity to serve XRP holders who struggled to find exchanges offering deep XRP liquidity and diverse XRP trading pairs. That focus has since expanded to cover over 700 cryptocurrencies, but XRP remains central to Bitrue’s identity.

The exchange operates globally and serves users in the UK, though it does not hold Financial Conduct Authority registration. This is an important point for UK users: Bitrue is an offshore exchange, which means UK consumer protections that apply to FCA-registered platforms do not cover your funds here.

Fees

Bitrue’s trading fees are competitive. The standard maker and taker fee is 0.098% — below the industry average of around 0.1-0.2% at most centralised exchanges. A volume-based discount structure rewards high-volume traders with progressively lower rates.

Withdrawal fees vary by cryptocurrency. XRP withdrawals cost 0.8 XRP flat, which is reasonable given XRP’s low transaction costs. Bitcoin and Ethereum withdrawal fees fluctuate with network conditions but are generally in line with industry norms. There are no deposit fees for cryptocurrency deposits.

For fiat deposits and withdrawals, Bitrue supports bank transfer and card purchases through third-party payment providers. These carry additional fees of 2-5% depending on the method and provider.

XRP Features

Bitrue’s XRP offering is genuinely exceptional. The platform lists over 80 XRP trading pairs — more than virtually any other centralised exchange. This is valuable for traders looking to exchange altcoins directly into XRP without routing through Bitcoin or a stablecoin.

Bitrue also offers XRP staking through its Power Piggy product, which delivers yield on XRP holdings without locking them up for extended periods. Rates vary with market conditions but have historically offered competitive returns compared to other XRP staking options.

Security

Bitrue suffered a significant security breach in June 2023, when approximately $23 million in assets was stolen from hot wallets. The exchange compensated affected users in full, which is notable — not all exchanges respond that way to hacks. Since the incident, Bitrue has published updated security architecture documentation and moved a higher proportion of assets to cold storage.

The exchange offers two-factor authentication via Google Authenticator or SMS. Withdrawal address whitelisting is available, which reduces the risk of funds being sent to unauthorised addresses. A 24-hour withdrawal lock applies when new withdrawal addresses are added.

Is Bitrue Right for UK Investors?

Bitrue is best suited to UK investors with a specific interest in XRP or altcoin trading who are comfortable using an offshore, non-FCA registered exchange. Its fees are competitive and its XRP selection is unmatched.

UK investors prioritising regulatory protection should use FCA-registered platforms including Coinbase, Kraken, or Revolut instead. The absence of FCA registration means no regulatory recourse if the exchange fails or your funds are misappropriated.

If you hold XRP and want the broadest trading options with reasonable fees, Bitrue is worth considering — but size your position accordingly given the platform risk.

Always verify FCA registration at the FCA Financial Services Register before using any crypto exchange.
