Revolut started as a travel money app. Today it is one of the most popular ways to buy cryptocurrency in the UK and Europe — with over 35 million customers. But is it actually a good crypto platform? Here is my honest take.
What Crypto Can You Buy on Revolut?
Revolut supports over 100 cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Cardano, Dogecoin and most major altcoins. You can buy in seconds directly from the app — no need to set up a separate exchange account.
Revolut Crypto Fees
This is where it gets important. Revolut charges a spread of around 1.99% on crypto trades for standard accounts, reducing to 1.49% on Premium and Metal plans. This is higher than dedicated exchanges like Kraken or Coinbase, but the convenience factor is significant.
The Big Limitation: You Cannot Withdraw Crypto
Until recently, Revolut did not let you withdraw crypto to an external wallet. They have begun rolling out withdrawals, but availability depends on your country and account tier. This means for long-term storage, you still need a hardware wallet and a proper exchange.
Where Revolut Shines
- Buy crypto instantly with your existing bank balance
- No separate account setup required
- Automatic round-ups — spare change invested in crypto
- Recurring purchases (DCA) built in
- Great for small, regular purchases alongside a main exchange
Verdict: Good for Starters, Not for Serious Investors
Revolut is excellent if you want to dip your toe into crypto without setting up a dedicated exchange account. For serious investing, use Revolut alongside Coinbase or Kraken.
