Free tokens arrive every week in crypto. Most are noise. Some are legitimate distributions from real projects, and this week three fall into that second category. Here is what is actually confirmed, what is still open, and what UK holders should check before connecting anything to a claim site.

This is not a list of speculative farms or unconfirmed rumours. Every project named here has made a public announcement with documented mechanics. Where details are uncertain, that is stated clearly. The UK Complete 2026 Crypto Airdrop Guide covers the foundational mechanics — how snapshots work, what to look for in a claim portal, and how to judge whether a project is real. This article covers what is live and claimable right now.

What Is a Crypto Airdrop and Why Do Projects Run Them?

An airdrop is a distribution of tokens sent directly to wallet addresses, usually at no cost to the recipient. Projects run them for several reasons. Some want to reward early users who tested a protocol before it launched publicly. Others want to distribute governance tokens so the project becomes decentralised in practice rather than just in name.

The mechanics differ significantly between projects. Snapshot airdrops record wallet activity at a specific block or date. Anyone who held a qualifying token or used a protocol before that cutoff may be eligible, without needing to do anything in advance. Retroactive airdrops work the same way but are announced after the fact, rewarding past behaviour nobody knew was being tracked.

Task-based campaigns require active participation. Users earn points by completing quests, bridging funds, or staking tokens, then redeem those points for tokens at a later date. Not all airdrops are worth your time — gas fees on some networks can exceed the reward, tokens may fall in value before you sell, and a significant proportion of what gets labelled an airdrop is a scam designed to drain wallets rather than fill them.

Grass Season 2: USDC Rewards Still Open Until January 2027

Grass is a decentralised network that pays users for contributing unused internet bandwidth via its desktop app. Season 2 claims opened on 22 July 2026. The final deadline to collect rewards is 20 January 2027 — just over five months away. The Grass team has confirmed there will be no extensions; miss that date and the allocation is gone permanently.

The key difference in Season 2 is the reward currency. Rather than distributing GRASS tokens, the project is paying USDC — a dollar-pegged stablecoin. This removes the volatility problem that hit many Season 1 recipients, who received speculative tokens that fell sharply before they could sell. With USDC, the value you see when you claim is the value you keep.

Eligibility comes from running the Grass desktop app and sharing bandwidth at any point between October 2024 and June 2026. If you ran the app during those months, you likely have an allocation. The claim process runs through the official Grass Dashboard: log in, navigate to the Allocation page, review your amount, and confirm. A small blockchain transaction fee applies.

Before you confirm any transaction, check whether your USDC allocation exceeds the gas fee required to claim. Several participants have reported allocations smaller than the transaction cost. The maths must work in your favour — if the fee eats the reward, wait for a cheaper window. Gas on Ethereum is historically lowest between 02:00 and 06:00 UTC on weekdays.

The Grass project has issued a direct security warning about this campaign: claim only through the official dashboard, which you should bookmark directly rather than reaching via a search engine. Phishing sites with near-identical URLs are actively circulating. Wallet drainer scripts are primed to fire the moment a user connects. Never follow a link to any claim portal from a Telegram group, Twitter reply, or unsolicited Discord message.

Plume Network Season 2: August Deadline Approaching

Plume Network opened its Season 2 claim portal in June 2026 on a three-month window. The deadline falls no later than September 2026, and potentially sooner — the project has not published a specific cutoff date. If you participated in Plume Season 2 activity, check your eligibility now rather than assuming you have weeks in hand.

The minimum to qualify is 10,000 Season 2 points earned through activity on the Plume protocol. The total allocation pool for this round is 150 million PLUME tokens. Most participants received somewhere between £3 and £10 worth of tokens at the current price of approximately $0.013 per PLUME. The user ranked 27th on the leaderboard received 4,412 tokens, worth roughly £45 at current prices.

The official claim portal is at claim-pp.plume.org. Check that URL character by character before connecting any wallet. A legitimate portal shows your allocation before requesting any approval signature. If a site asks you to approve a contract interaction before displaying what you are owed, close the tab immediately — that is a drainer tactic. Confirm the network gas cost is lower than your allocation before proceeding.

AIW3 Genesis Airdrop: Snapshot Taken, Claims Now Open

AIW3 is an AI and Web3 project that took its genesis eligibility snapshot on 28 July 2026. The eligibility checker opened on 29 July, and the token generation event with first claims was scheduled for 3 August. As of this week, the claim window is open for wallets that were active on the AIW3 platform before the snapshot date.

To check eligibility, visit the official AIW3 website and use the eligibility checker with your wallet address. The $AIW3 genesis allocation page shows which wallets qualified and how many tokens each will receive. The process should require only a wallet connection and a standard claim transaction.

AIW3 is a newer project without the track record of Grass or Plume. There is limited independent media coverage of the genesis event — not automatically a red flag for a recent launch, but it does warrant extra caution. Only interact using a wallet that does not hold your main holdings. Never approve unlimited token spending permissions for any project you are still evaluating, and use revoke.cash afterwards to cancel any approvals you do not intend to leave active.

Task-Based Campaigns Running This Week

Several protocols are running ongoing campaigns where users earn points by completing tasks. None of these are confirmed distributions yet — no snapshot date has been set, no allocation announced, no payout guaranteed. They represent early participation in ecosystems that may reward contributors in a future token launch. Treat them accordingly: worthwhile if you already use the protocol, speculative if you are starting from scratch.

MoonPay is running an incentive programme where users earn rewards for signing up, adding a PayBox account, and connecting their X profile. MoonPay is an established crypto on-ramp used by Coinbase, MetaMask, and hundreds of other platforms — this campaign carries more institutional credibility than most. No payout timeline or token mechanics have been confirmed publicly.

Push Chain — formerly Push Protocol — offers points for completing social tasks, quests, and referrals. Push has been active since 2020 and built the notification and messaging infrastructure used across major DeFi protocols. A token launch has been discussed publicly but no date or allocation amount has been confirmed. Given its long track record and real product adoption, this sits at the more credible end of the task-campaign spectrum.

AlloX offers points for building AI portfolios and completing tasks. MINT rewards users for funding a wallet, playing in-app games, and staking MNTD tokens. Both are more speculative. Apply the standard rule to all of them: never put real money into a protocol solely to qualify for a potential future airdrop.

Gas Fees: Run the Numbers Before You Claim

Every airdrop claim requires at least one on-chain transaction. Every transaction costs gas. On the Ethereum mainnet, a token approval plus claim can run from £3 to £20 depending on network congestion. On layer 2 networks like Arbitrum or Base, fees are far lower. On Solana and Tron, fees are typically a fraction of a penny.

Before confirming any claim, calculate three numbers: the current gas price on the relevant network, the number of separate transactions the claim requires, and the sterling value of your allocation at today’s token price. If total fees exceed the allocation, do not claim. Tools like gas.wtf and Blocknative give live fee data. Timing a claim during a low-fee window — Ethereum is cheapest between 02:00 and 06:00 UTC on weekdays — can mean the difference between profit and a net loss.

Scam Warning: What Is Circulating This Week

In March 2026, the FBI issued a public consumer alert about a fake TRC-20 airdrop operating on the Tron network. Attackers distributed unsolicited tokens labelled “FBI Token” to thousands of wallets, then directed victims to a fraudulent claim page. Anyone who connected had their wallet drained immediately. The FBI characterised this as a large-scale criminal operation — not an isolated incident.

Security researchers report that impersonation scams grew by 1,400% year on year in 2026. These attacks copy a legitimate project’s branding to run a fake distribution. Two patterns dominate. Phishing clone sites look identical to the real portal and activate a drainer the moment you connect. Malicious approval attacks trick users into signing a transaction that grants unlimited access to all wallet tokens — often executed days later to obscure the link.

If you receive an unsolicited token you did not earn, do not interact with it, try to swap it, or visit any site it links to. Many drainer scripts activate when victims attempt to move a suspicious token. For a full breakdown of warning signs, the article covering 7 airdrop red flags before connecting a wallet goes through each tactic in detail. The FCA has standing guidance warning UK consumers that unsolicited token distributions are a common entry point for investment fraud.

HMRC and UK Tax: What Happens When You Claim Tokens

HMRC does not treat airdrop tokens as untaxed windfalls. The classification depends on what you did to receive them. If you completed tasks, contributed bandwidth, or provided any service in exchange for tokens, HMRC treats the receipt as income. You pay income tax on the sterling value of the tokens at the time of receipt, using the market price on the day you claimed.

When you later sell or swap those tokens, Capital Gains Tax applies on the gain. The taxable amount is calculated against your cost basis — the sterling value you declared as income when you claimed. The CGT annual exempt amount for the 2026/27 tax year is £3,000. Gains from all sources — crypto, shares, investment property — count toward that figure together. Below the threshold, no CGT is due; above it, basic-rate taxpayers pay 18% and higher-rate taxpayers pay 24%.

For Grass Season 2, the USDC receipt in exchange for bandwidth is likely to be treated as income, even though stablecoins hold their value. Keep records of every claim: the date, the amount received, the sterling value at the time, and the transaction hash. HMRC requires crypto holders to maintain these records indefinitely. Tools like Koinly and CoinTracker automate much of this if you connect your wallets and keep accounts up to date.

What This Means for UK Readers

Three real, traceable distributions are open this week. Grass Season 2 is the most credible — established project, USDC reward, and a deadline of 20 January 2027. Check your allocation, verify the gas cost is covered by your USDC amount, and claim through the official dashboard only. Plume Season 2 has an uncertain closing date this month — if you participated in Season 2 activity, log in and check today. AIW3 is claimable now for qualifying wallets but carries more risk as a newer project; use a secondary wallet with minimal holdings.

Task campaigns from MoonPay and Push Chain are worth a few minutes of setup if you are already active in crypto. Do not put in capital expecting a payout — treat them as optional groundwork with no guaranteed return. Whatever you claim this week, record the sterling value at the time of receipt. The £3,000 CGT exemption helps with small gains, but HMRC still expects income tax to be paid on tokens received in exchange for services or tasks. Real distributions do not require urgency. If anything tells you to claim within 24 hours or lose everything, that is a scam.
